Black Sun Drum Korps : Invokation of Lady Macbeth

Drum Major Russell MacEwan from Black Sun Drum Korps discusses the group’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s dark classic, Macbeth. Focusing on the story of Lady Macbeth, Black Sun Drum Korps combine rhythmic industrial music with Burroughs and Gysin’s cut-up technique to create an intense and visceral retelling of the Bard’s tale.

Drum Major Russell MacEwan offers two participatory workshops in cut-up technique and industrial percussion ahead of ‘Invokation of Lady Macbeth’ at Summerhall.

Cut-Up Technique is a literary technique in which a text is cut up and rearranged to create a new text. It is classed as an aleatory technique. Aleatoricism is the incorporation of chance into the process of creation.

These workshops are on Tuesday 26th November, 2013, from 19.00 – 22.15, in the Anatomy Lecture Theatre, Summerhall.

The performance of the Invokation of Lady Macbeth is on Wednesday 27th November, Friday 29th November and Saturday 30th November 2013, from 20.00 – 21.00, in the Dissection Room, Summerhall.
