Sculptor and Summerhall resident, Deirdre Nicholls unveils her Nelson Mandela bust, at a ceremony in Glasgow City Chambers, celebrating 21 years since Mandela visited Glasgow to thank them for granting him the freedom of the city. Nicholls was selected by a panel of judges to create a bust of Mandela, which will remain in the foyer of the City Chambers. It was a key concern of Nicholls’ to reflect the spirit of Mandela, and the global stature he maintained until his death in December last year.

Deirdre Nicholls has a studio in Summerhall where she does much of the work for her sculptures. Find out more about Deirdre Nicholls and her work at http://www.deirdrenicholls.co.uk/Welcome.html
