Irvine Welsh : Drugs Culture

The legalisation of certain drugs has been a hotly contested subject, leading to many arguments for and against the proposals. Roger Pertwee, Professor of Neuropharmacology at Aberdeen University, previously claimed that cannabis should be legalised and sold under similar restrictions to those for alcohol and cigarettes. While many argue that the drug is dangerous and has links to causing schizophrenia, Pertwee believes it would be beneficial as it takes the drugs out of the criminals hands and allows for greater control of it.

The drugs culture in Britain features in many forms from art, all the way to books. In this video, Robert Morgan interviews Irvine Welsh for Edinburgh Television’s Drugs Culture series. Welsh, whose books Trainspotting and Porno contain elements of drug culture, discusses his previous works and future projects.
