Andrew Carnegie : The Legacy That Changed The World

Curator at the Scottish Parliament Fiona McDougall, introduces the exhibition Andrew Carnegie : The Legacy That Changed The World. Featuring many artefacts on loan from 20 different lenders, including letters from Carnegie to politicians and other important people in society, his last will and testament and puppets from Sesame Tree.

Born in Dunfermline, Andrew Carnegie and his family moved to America when he was still young, in search of better fortunes. Carnegie became involved in the rail and later the steel industry, where he would go on to make his vast fortune. Carnegie became the first modern philanthropist as he spread his wealth far and wide, benefitting the public by investing in education, the arts and sciences.

This exhibition is on at the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh, and runs until the 25th January.
