Astrid Jaekel : Rose Street Designs

Artist Astrid Jaekel introduces her two pieces on Rose Street, Edinburgh. The first, ‘Rose Street Poem of the Season’, was a project commissioned by Essential Edinburgh and supported by the Prince’s Foundation, Edinburgh Unesco City of Literature and the Roxburghe Hotel. Featuring the work of famous Scottish poets associated with Rose Street and Edinburgh, Astrid’s designs were adapted from her paper cut illustrations, enlarged and transferred on to the walls in a vinyl form.

Further down Rose Street, the second of Astrid’s designs can be found illustrating the poem ‘Beachcomber’ by Scottish poet and member of the ‘Rose Street Poets’, George Mackay Brown. Also commissioned by Essential Edinburgh as part of plans to boost Rose Street, this design was adapted from a handmade paper cut and constructed out of large sheets of steel. The project was supported by The Prince’s Foundation, Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature and British Telecom.
