Christopher Baker : Man Ray Portraits

Man Ray (1890-1976) was a painter and self taught photographer, using the latter to fund his artwork. His work pushed the boundaries of photography, particularly when he pioneered the solarisation technique, a method in which the image is reversed in tone resulting in dark areas appearing light, and light areas appearing dark. His best known portraits are of his lover and muse, Lee Miller, who was also a photographer.

Director of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery Christopher Baker, introduces the retrospective exhibition, featuring over 100 prints documenting life during the Dada and Surrealist movements, to fashion and celebrity photography.

In association with the National Portrait Gallery of London, this exhibition is showing at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery until the 22nd September
