Jessica Harrison : Broken

Artist Jessica Harrison presents her new exhibition, Broken, which features a selection of ready-made ceramic sculptures, but with a dark twist. Despite their serene expressions, these female figurines hold their intestines, or a broken arm, have no eyes or have peeled off their face. Such a disturbing change to the normal twee image we associate with ornaments of this nature is part of Harrison’s work to challenge this idea of supposed perfection, of unobtainable beauty that might be expected of a female.

As part of the Edinburgh Art Festival, Broken is on in the Tin Roof Gallery, Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh, until the 28th September 2014.
