Painter Keith Salmon is a resident at Wasps Courtyard Studios, Irvine and introduces his work, along with the work of others based at the studios on their open day. Salmon was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy and his sight deteriorated quickly, which posed a challenge to how he approached his work. Salmon’s paintings are now more textured and abstract, employing techniques to create scratchings and other markings.

Courtyard Studios is a purpose-built studio complex built in 1994 on Irvine’s regenerated harbour front. With funding from Creative Scotland Wasps was able to buy and refurbish the buildings. They now currently provide 17 studios housing 15 artists. All of the studios have shop-front access and are open to the public all year round.
