International Year of Soil (IYS) Exhibition

There are more living things in a tablespoon of soil than there are people on Earth. Without soils there would be no terrestrial life. And yet we fail to realise the vital importance of soil for sustaining life. Without soils there would be no life on Earth.

The UN declared 2015 the International Year of Soils (IYS) to raise awareness among civil society and decision makers about the profound importance of soil for human life, in matters such as food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation, ecosystem services, poverty alleviation and sustainable development.

The exhibition at Summerhall will mark the UN International Year of Soils and provide a creative platform for showcasing Scotland’s active engagement with the Earth’s tender skin, using the best available scientific information and building on all dimensions of sustainable development.

3rd September – 2nd October 2015 at Summerhall

Exhibition curated by CIFAL Scotland
